William Attaway became the third senior pastor of Southview Baptist Church in 2006. Prior to coming to Southview as the associate pastor in 2004, he served as a staff minister at North Richland Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as churches in Mississippi and Alabama. Pastor William is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a graduate of William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS (B.A. in Religion) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX (M.A. in Theology). His seminary studies focused primarily in the areas of Old Testament and Hebrew studies. William and his wife Charlotte were married in 1997, and they have two daughters: Erin, born in 2004, and Allison, born in 2007.
In previous ministry settings, Pastor William has most enjoyed developing programs for leadership training. He believes and tries to model that a pastor's job is not to do everything himself, but to "equip the saints for the work of service". Pastor William's primary spiritual gifts are teaching and administration. He enjoys reading, traveling, playing golf, and working with computers. He also teaches New Testament Survey for Itawamba Community College’s distance learning program. The Attaways homeschool their daughters, striving to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. His favorite verse of Scripture is Romans 8:31 - "What then shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?"
